Shallow Bowl #1
I make all my work on the potter’s wheel in a blend of stoneware clays, chosen to create the desired texture. Some pieces are thrown in one whilst others are compiled of multiple separate sections. It’s a time-consuming way to work but it allows me to get the balance right between the straight, static edges and the sweeping curves. Each piece it then glazed in three to four glazes that are freely poured and brushed on to create a depth of tone and texture once fired. Although I make in batches and repeat forms, with this body of work, I don’t try too hard to replicate from piece to piece. Resulting in the total individuality of each piece, no two the same.
